Meadow Cottage - A place to relax

Happy New Year!

Wow 2014 already! Just what did happen to 2013 and where did those 365 days go to? A sure reminded that time waits for no man! Anyway with that may we wish all our readers a ‘Happy New Year.’

One of the great delights and joys we have discovered in our first year of running a holiday cottage is that of meeting so many wonderful people from all over the world. During 2013 we had visitors from USA, Canada, France, China, Germany, Ireland and the UK staying at Meadow Cottage and the majority were a pleasure to have. Over the New Year time we had a most delightful family from the Ukraine staying whose English (both written and spoken) put us to shame for not having spent more time in our youth learning a second language. Not only did they speak wonderful English they were just lovely people to have staying as the year changed. On New Years Eve they popped round with a tin of Salmon Caviar, something that neither of us had tried before. Apparently it is a custom in the Ukraine to pass on such a gift on New Years Eve. As we are both very traditional and maybe not too adventurous food wise we were a bit hesitant trying out this new delicacy. We need not have been! Spread on a piece of bread it was a great way to help bring in the New Year thinking of the kindness and thoughtfulness of others. We thank them for helping to make our New Year that bit extra special and trust that they too will have enjoyable memories of staying on the Causeway Coast. We look forward to meeting other wonderful people during this coming year.

So what has changed at Meadow Cottage? Well we are very happy to report that the lawn is coming on really well, thickening up and looking just great. Hopefully by spring it will be in great shape for use by anyone staying in the cottage. At present we are having the driveway sorted following its contamination with mud during the summer storm. We are planting a hedge along one side of the entrance driveway and will be using the contaminated stones to help provide cover for weed control and replacing these with new clean stones on the driveway. In November we were inspected by Northern Ireland Tourist Board as we were seeking a star rating for the cottage. Having received a very informative review and written report we are very happy to say that we were given a four star rating. We know that we can improve further in some areas and aim to do so in stages as the year progresses. The first thing we intend to do, following the purchase of a retro style Fridge/Freezer last autumn, is to remove the small freezer-less built in fridge and make the space provided into another cupboard. After that we hope to put two leather easy chairs into the lounge to replace the two Ikea ones presently provided. We have other ongoing plans but will take them one step at a time.

Hopefully if you have visited the site before you will have noticed that we had added suitable links into many of the places we mention as well as a detailed links page directing you to helpful tourist sites in the area, interesting shops and pleasant restaurants. We trust that these improvements will help anyone visiting our website, whether staying at Meadow Cottage or not, find out a little more about this area of outstanding natural beauty.

Again we wish you all a ‘Happy New Year’ and we look forward to welcoming some of you to Meadow Cottage during 2014.

Robert & Karen.

Youth learning a second language is not easy at all. Just a quick to tell you that I have a passion for the topic "speak wonderful English" at hand. I will share this post on my twitter page to see my followers. Maybe, they have some query.
