Well just where did summer go? Here we are now into September and autumn is coming on fast. I had intended to produce a summer blog but ....well never got round to it! At least most of the UK this year had a good summer for a change and more than just a few days, nearly four weeks of continuous heat and sun is almost unheard of especially here on Antrim’s north coast. Still it was great and hopefully appreciated by all our visitors to Meadow Cottage. We will try and order another dose of good weather for our guests in 2014!
It was during the heat wave that we had our lawn finally sown. A local farmer made a totally marvellous job of levelling and sowing the whole area working none stop in the oppressive heat. Once sown for five days we had the sprinklers going and then.......... the thunderstorm – and what a storm it was! We were in Coleraine when it broke and almost had to sail the car back home along the Cloyfin Road which had become a lake. Once home all we could do was watch in dismay as two huge muddy rivers rolled down over the fields across our newly sown lawn cutting large valleys in several places as they swept across the drive taking mud, seeds and stones with them. A quick and very wet race round to the rabbit managed to rescue him as the water rose up under his hutch! After two failed attempts to clear up the mess as fresh torrential downpours caused more damage was waited until the end of August to try and get straight. The local farmer, a true stalwart came and patched up the lawn whilst I started fixing up the driveway. We now have a lawned area which is doing well and received its first cut on Thursday. Extracting the mud from the stones on the driveway it painfully slow work however we are now too getting on top of that. So as you will be able to see from the pictures Meadow Cottage does now have a fully functioning large and private lawn area to be used by visitors staying here.
This summer we purchased a retro style fridge freezer for the cottage. The fitted fridge should have had a freezer box but came without and as our kitchen supplier went out of business it left us a bit stuck. One or two visitors had mentioned that a freezer would be useful and we agreed. Anyway the problem has now been rectified with a larger fridge than before and a reasonable size three drawer freezer as well.
If you are looking for a short autumn break you will see that we do have a special offer on at present of 3 nights for £165 and we promise you clean and comfortable five star accommodation. We have stayed in a variety of self catering cottages in the past and been amazed at how poor they were. In one place we fell through the settee as the springs were rotten. In another we had water shrimps in the bath and worst of all a place totally reeking with damp! We promise you only the best at Meadow Cottage. So we hope that you will not only look us up but being impressed by what you see and read book us up and then come and visit and hopefully we will fulfil all your expectations!
